MOUNT LOFTY SUMMIT is the highest point in the southern Mount Lofty Ranges with over 710 metres in elevation. It is located about 15 kilometres from Adelaide City up in the Adelaide Hills. The summit is a major tourist attraction offering panoramic views across Adelaide City’s skyline and the coast. The Obelisk “Flinders Column” The Obelisk known as the Flinders Column was built in 1885 in dedication to Matthew Flinders, the Captain of the Investigator who sighted and named Mt Lofty from Kangaroo Island on 23 March 1802. At the Mount Lofty summit lookout, you can find some helpful interpretive signage describing the main features of the views and also maps of the walking trails around Mount Lofty.
