3-DAY YORKE PENINSULA SOUTH AUSTRALIA ROAD TRIP
We had a wonderful road trip around the Yorke Peninsula here in South Australia. It wasn’t my first time though we’ve been in the same places sometime in 2015. This time we were a big group with nine cars in convoy total of 30 in headcount. This is a three-day road trip following the itinerary below.
1st stop: Adelaide to Maitland Information Centre, SA
Distance 160km, Approximately 2 hours of driving from Adelaide
We stopped by Maitland SA for a quick breakie at the Kids Playground before heading to Maitland Info Centre for kids and the kids-at-heart to enjoy the Dinosaur display.
2nd stop: Maitland Info Centre to Hardwicke Bay Beach (location: follow Southshore Rd. Hardwicke Bay)
Distance 65.5 km (from Maitland SA), Approximately 45 minutes drive
Swimming time at the prestine beach of Hardwicke Bay, South Australia
3rd and final stop: Hardwicke Bay to Marion Bay, SA
Distance 63 km (from Hardwicke Bay), Approximately 41 minutes drive
And after all the fun in the beach it’s time to check-in our Airbnb accommodation in Marion Bay South Australia. We spent two nights with Marion Bay as our base while we explore the neighboring surrounds.
After breakfast we started our road trip exploring Marion Bay.
1st stop: Marion Bay Jetty
2nd stop: Meehan Hill Lookout
3rd stop: Hillocks Drive
Please note that in entering Hillocks Drive we had to pay $15 per car. We were only after sightseeing and just driving passed some people were there camping and fishing. Probably a good spot if you are a fishing enthusiast. What we saw secluded beaches, magnificent coastal views, the unique ocean pod on top of the cliff and that’s about it.
4th stop: Stenhouse Bay Jetty
From Hillocks Drive, we drove towards Innes National Park and had a picnic overlooking an amazing view of Stenhouse Bay Jetty. Please note you need to book park fees online via their website. We paid $11 per vehicle for the day we entered the park.
5th stop: Cape Spencer Lighthouse
6th stop: Ethel Wreck Beach Lookout
7th stop: West Cape Lookout
8th and final stop: Shell Beach
It’s swimming time at Shell Beach. The beach is very safe for swimming especially for kids and you can find rock pools in the area.
It was time to checkout before 10 AM, we were already driving towards Minlaton, SA.
1st stop: Captain Harry Butler Memorial
A short pit stop at the Harry Butler Red Devil Memorial.
2nd stop: Port Hughes Jetty
We had picnic near the kids playground area.
And finally, we drove to Moonta to experience the Moonta Mines Tourist Train.
